Christian Soul artist Shelia Moore-Piper discusses her latest single “Let’s Celebrate,” her musical journey, faith-driven message, and passion for blending soulful sounds with uplifting grooves.
1. Your new single, “Let’s Celebrate,” is all about joy, faith, and praising Jesus. What inspired you to write this song?
Years ago, I was leaving an event and flying back home. I needed a Christmas Single, and the Lord helped me write it. After the song came out, we decided to do another version with horns and heavy instrumentation. We celebrate everything else why not celebrate Jesus! He’s worthy to be celebrated too.
2. Your music combines soulful vocals, funky bass lines, live horns, and energetic grooves. How would you describe the sound you have developed as a Christian Soul artist?
I love all types of music, so I try to blend the sounds that I like into the music I do. I like doing different things with music and not being placed into a box. Music should be exciting, not boring, and I believe it should always keep you on your toes with not just the sound but also the message.
3. Your hit song “Get Excited” helped establish your name. How has your musical journey evolved since then, and what have you learned along the way?
It has really evolved! “Get Excited was my start and I am grateful it put me on the map, but you must keep moving with the times and seasons. Music has a way of evolving, and you don’t get stagnant; you move too. I always say, “Success is not a destination; it’s a journey so you keep moving.
4. You are also co-owner of Bdm /Ugroove Music alongside your husband, Glenn “GP” Piper. How do you balance your roles as an artist and a music business owner?
I do whatever is needed when it’s needed. Both require you to stay ahead of the game.
5. You have received recognition and awards both nationally and internationally. What achievements have meant the most to you, and what keeps you motivated?
All of it has meant the most to me! It’s been a journey, but I am still evolving into the next best thing. With God’s help; I can continue to be a blessing to others with the music the LORD allowed me to do!
6. What do you hope listeners take away from “Let’s Celebrate,” and what can we expect next from Shelia Moore-Piper?
I hope listeners will take away; celebrating Jesus because he’s the way, truth and the life! Without him we can do nothing and you can expect me to keep going to new levels and reach hopefully the masses with the gifts God has graced me with!
