Stefanie Michaela

In this interview, Stefanie Michaela discusses her musical comeback, family life, personal growth, and the inspiration behind “Happy Hearts,” a heartfelt holiday single celebrating love, forgiveness, and togetherness.

1. Your upcoming single, “Happy Hearts,” celebrates love, family, and the simple moments that make the holiday season special. What inspired you to write this song, and what does the message of togetherness mean to you personally?

“Happy Hearts” was inspired by what I’ve come to realize matters most in life—love, family, and the moments we share. Like many families, we’ve experienced challenges, misunderstandings, and disappointments that have taught me a lot about compassion and forgiveness. We’re all human, and sometimes we don’t always get things right. But I believe in uplifting one another, offering grace, and appreciating the people in our lives. The holidays remind me that it’s not about everything being picture-perfect. It’s about connection, kindness, and making memories with the people we love. That’s the heart behind this song.

2. As a mother of five children, including two sets of twins, and someone who cares for four dogs, your home must be full of energy and surprises. How has family life influenced your songwriting, and did any real-life holiday moments inspire “Happy Hearts”?

With five children, including two sets of twins, and four dogs, our house is full of energy, laughter, and plenty of chaos! Being a mother has taught me patience, perspective, and how quickly time passes. Some of our most meaningful holiday memories aren’t the big celebrations but the little unexpected moments when we’re simply enjoying each other’s company. Family life has also taught me that relationships aren’t always easy, but those experiences can bring us closer and remind us what truly matters. I wanted “Happy Hearts” to capture that warmth, joy, and appreciation for the people who make life special.

3. You recently returned to music after taking time away to focus on raising your family. How has this new chapter changed your perspective as an artist, and what has it taught you about pursuing your dreams at different stages of life?

Returning to music has been about so much more than releasing songs. For years, I struggled with an eating disorder and the belief that I needed to be thin or look a certain way to be successful or accepted. That mindset held me back from pursuing so many things I loved. Over time, I’ve learned that our worth isn’t defined by our appearance, age, or anyone else’s expectations.

I’ve also experienced rejection and moments when others made me question what I could accomplish. But rather than allowing those experiences to stop me, I’ve chosen to grow stronger because of them. Becoming a mother and returning to music have taught me that dreams don’t have an expiration date. I want my children to see that setbacks don’t define us and that no one else gets to decide what we’re capable of achieving. It’s never too late to believe in yourself and pursue what you love.

4. Your musical background includes musical theater and collaborations with experienced songwriters and producers. How have these experiences shaped your vocal style and approach to storytelling, and how do you bring your personality into your contemporary pop sound?

Musical theater taught me the importance of storytelling and connecting emotionally with a song. I’ve also been fortunate to collaborate with incredibly talented songwriters and producers, including Keith Thomas, Steve Dorff, Michael Jay, Nash Overstreet, Nitanee Paris, and Mark Dorflinger. Each experience has helped me grow and develop my own sound.

My music blends contemporary pop with R&B influences, but authenticity is always at the center. Whether a song is uplifting, vulnerable, or playful, I want people to connect with the emotion behind it and feel like they’re getting to know the real me.

5. Your 2026 releases, including Turning Pages, “Let Me See the Real You,” and “Carefree,” explore different aspects of life and personal growth. How do these releases reflect your artistic evolution, and where does “Happy Hearts” fit into the story you are telling through your music?

Each release represents a different part of my personal journey. Turning Pages was about growth, change, and embracing a new chapter. “Let Me See the Real You” explored authenticity and accepting ourselves for who we are, something especially meaningful to me after years of struggling with unrealistic expectations of myself.

“Carefree” brought out a lighter side, celebrating the freedom of letting go and enjoying life.

“Happy Hearts” brings that journey back to love, gratitude, and human connection. I’ve learned that happiness isn’t found in meeting impossible standards but in embracing life, supporting one another, and appreciating the moments that matter. I want my music to reflect real experiences and remind people they’re not alone.

6. With “Happy Hearts” arriving just before the holiday season, you hope the song will become part of listeners’ Christmas traditions. What do you hope people feel when they hear it, and what other musical projects or dreams are you looking forward to pursuing next?

I hope “Happy Hearts” brings people joy and becomes part of their holiday traditions, whether they’re decorating the tree, spending time with family, or simply enjoying the season. I also hope it reminds people that even when relationships are complicated, kindness, compassion, and connection matter.

As for what’s next, I’m excited to continue creating music, collaborating, making videos, and performing. I’ve learned that rejection doesn’t have to mean the end of a dream. Sometimes it becomes the motivation to work even harder.

I’ll continue pursuing what I love with passion and determination for as long as that passion is in my heart. More than anything, I want to show my children that you never give up simply because someone tells you no. You keep growing, believing, and moving forward. Pursuing your dreams doesn’t take away from your family—it can enrich your life and inspire the people around you. That’s the example I hope to set.
