In this interview, Aurealis explores the emotional depth behind “Fire in Rain,” blending love, resilience, and cinematic soundscapes into a luminous reflection on human connection, duality, and inner strength.

1. “Fire in Rain” feels both intimate and expansive at the same time – can you walk us through how the song evolved from a story about love into something more universal about human resilience and inner light?
At its core, Fire in Rain began as a song about two people who want to connect and hold on to something real, even in difficult circumstances. But as I sat with it, it started to feel bigger than just one relationship. It became about the part of all of us that still wants to stay open, still wants to believe in warmth and beauty, even after disappointment or loss. The title itself carries that tension – something fragile and glowing trying to survive in the middle of conditions that should put it out. That idea felt very human to me. Love is part of it, but so is resilience, hope, and the instinct to keep that inner spark alive.

2. The track is built around shimmering synths and layered vocals that create a very cinematic atmosphere. How do you approach sound design and production to achieve that immersive, almost visual quality in your music?
I’m always chasing mood first. Before I think in technical terms, I usually have a feeling, an atmosphere, or even a visual texture in mind. With Fire in Rain, I wanted everything to feel luminous, emotional, and fluid, like light reflecting off wet streets or color moving through rainfall. So the layered vocals, synth textures, and overall production were all shaped around that feeling. I like music to feel immersive, almost like stepping into a world rather than just hearing a song. If the production can create that kind of emotional and visual space, then it’s doing what I want it to do.

3. There’s a strong emotional duality in this release – warmth versus cold, light versus darkness. How intentional is that contrast in your songwriting, and what does it represent for you personally?
That contrast is very intentional. A lot of the songs that I write tend to live in that in-between space where beauty and sadness, longing and hope, vulnerability and strength all exist together. Fire in Rain definitely sits there. For me, that duality reflects real life. Some of the most meaningful emotional experiences are never purely light or purely dark – they’re both at once. In this song, warmth represents connection, memory, and the desire to keep feeling deeply, while the colder elements represent distance, struggle, and the fear of losing that connection. The tension between the two is really what gives the song its heart.

4. Your project, Aurealis, is described as blending storytelling with a strong visual identity. How important is the visual aspect – like the rain-soaked imagery in the video – to fully express the meaning behind your music?

The visual side is very important to me. I don’t really see the songs and visuals as separate things. The music often arrives with a mood or world attached to it, and the visual identity helps complete that emotional language. With Fire in Rain, the rain-soaked imagery, the glow, the movement, and the sense of people reaching toward joy and connection all help express what the song is really about. The video isn’t just decoration – it’s another layer of storytelling. It lets the emotional world of the song become something you can actually step into.

5. Compared to “Shadow of a Doubt,” this new single reveals a more romantic and luminous side of Aurealis. Do you see your releases as chapters of a larger narrative, or are they more like standalone emotional worlds?
I think they’re a bit of both. Each release has its own emotional world and its own identity, but together they also reveal different sides of Aurealis. Shadow of a Doubt leaned into uncertainty, erosion, and emotional shadow, while Fire in Rain is more romantic, open, and luminous. I like the idea that each song can stand on its own, but when you look at them together, they begin to feel like chapters in a broader emotional and artistic journey. Different moods, different colors, different inner landscapes – but all part of the same universe.

6. “Fire in Rain” carries a message of holding on and keeping that inner spark alive even after loss. What do you hope listeners take away from the song when they experience it for the first time?
More than anything, I hope they feel something real. I hope the song reminds them that even after loss, disappointment, or distance, there is still beauty worth reaching for and something inside us worth protecting. If someone hears Fire in Rain and feels less alone, or feels like that spark in them is still there even if life has been heavy, then the song has done something meaningful. I want it to feel emotional, but also uplifting in a deeper way – not naive, but hopeful.
